Engineer Wade reviewed
the city's contract for
engineering services with
the council. He related the
history of the company's
relations with the city since
the first contract in 1952.
Wade explained costs,
comparing with other
current rates; related the
history of projects during the
last few years and the
supervising of city depart-
ments during this time. He
requested that the name of
the firm be changed in the
proposed new contract to
ttammond, Collier, Wade
and Livingstone and
Associates to reflect the
inclusion of a sanitary
engineering firm 'which is
merged with the engineers.

which may require the city

cities may turn over all

Ron George wins 1st
Gran Prix Trike race
The first annual Marysville
GRAN Prix Tricycle Race is
history, and quite a hit it
made with the crowd of
thousands who witnessed the
extravaganza.
Ron~ George won the
spectacular race, pedalling
his Bill Bailey sponsored
Tireless along the State
Avenue course for three laps
in fast time of 13 minutes 41
seconds.
Jim Kemp narrowly
missed, pressing all the way
course for three, fun-filled, hazardous laps. Pub stops,
check points and lack of pedal power slowed the pace
later.

the Time Trials, and placed second in the actual race.

The 22 racers were com-
peting for fun, and the top
prize of a three day, two
night trip to Reno, donated
by Adventure House. A $25
cash award was also given
the winner from Chamber of
Commerce.

spontaneous enthusiasm of
the contestants and
assistance from City of
IVlarysville in helping stag~
the GRAN Prix Trike Race'.
Bernie St. Onge and Gary
Petits were instrumental

and hopefully we'll have an
even bigger competition next
year," Resch said.

.in Strawberry Parade
Although Mother Nature
held threatening skies
during part of the Marysville
1973 Strawberry Festival
Grand Parade, the
thousands of people who
enjoyed the colorful floats,
marching units and drill
teams, were able to watch
the event without getting wet
as the downpour held off
until the parade was over.
Winner of the Sweepstakes
Trophy for senior floats was
the Greater Stanwood entry
with Bellingham Post No. 7,
American Legion coming in
second and Arlington's
Frontier Days taking third
place.
Marysville's Cub Pack 30
and Scout Troop 30 were
Sweepstakes winner in the
Junior Float Division and
Cascade Chapter Demolay
took second place.
Miss Snohomish County,
Barbara Keck, reigning as
Queen of the Strawberry
Festival adorned the
Marysville Queen's Float
with her princesses, Jamie
Weeks and Nancy Taylor.
Miss Keck received the
Queen's Trophy.
In the baton compeUtion the
Bellingham Rosettes were
first, Bellingham Royalettes
second and the Tacoma
Starlighters were third.
The Wallingford Pep Cadets
won the civic trophy in junior
marching. Seattle Moose
Lodge 211 Blue Devils took
first place, the Pep Cadets
were second and
Marysville's own Tom-
miettes won third place
trophy.
The Enumclaw Band won
the drum and bugle com-
petition, and in senior
marching the Eagle Mar-
ching Group from Everett
took first trophy and Key '73,
also from Everett, was
second.
The North Seattle Covenant
Church won first place in the
comic division with their
Disney characters and Lake
City Vigilantes came in
second.
In the horse (group)
Equestriannairs 4-H Club
took first place with Withers
and Wits 4-H Club taking
second. First place in horse
(individual) went to Otto
Hansen.
The trophy for first place in
the commercial float
division went to the
Marysville Mall and
Sherry's Young World took
second place.
